In a very brief but familiar story we discover one person who in humility, gave what she had to God. Others gave as well but made sure to keep plenty for themselves. A question for each of us is, do I give from my abundance, or from my heart? Do I know the difference?

In a familiar story and a familiarly themed parable, we discover anew the goal of Jesus to seek the lost. We also discover that those who claim to follow Jesus are given a freedom within boundaries to serve him to the best of their abilities. We will finally learn that God does not play games or put up with spiritual facades.

We learn in this passage the balance of the already and not yet reality of the return of Jesus.
